Overview
To provide personal assistance to customers in their own home and in the community. The service should be delivered in accordance with the customer’s risk assessment, support plan & in line with Break Barriers policies & procedures.

- We are looking for kind, caring & compassionate individual to join a team of our care workers to provide the outstanding care in Nottingham area.
- Care experience is not a mandatory, but it can be an added advantage as we offer full training and support to become a care assistant.
- We require every care worker to have current UK driving licence due to the nature of the job.
- Your induction will include necessary training such as health and safety, first aid and moving and handling.
Responsible For
- 1. To promote customers independent living and the control over their life in involving them in all decision making.
- 2. To provide physical assistance with personal care, including assistance with toileting, washing, bathing, showering etc…
- 3. To be able to use hoisting equipment and moving and handling techniques. Training will be provided.
- 4. To assist with or carry out the preparation of meals at the request of the customer and where necessary support with feeding.
- 5. To prompt or administer medication in line with Break Barriers policy and customer’s doctor’s prescription.
- 6. To provide assistance with or undertake household tasks including laundry and cleaning.
- 7. To support customers with the care of their pets and light gardening duties when required
- 8. To support customers in the community with recreational activities or other activities such as shopping, visiting friends and family etc…
- 9. To safeguard customers from abuse and discrimination. Training will be provided.
- 10. To attend staff team meetings and mandatory training sessions.
- 11. To communicate positively and effectively with the customers, colleagues and any other group of people who may be part of the working environment such as: customer’s parents or friends; social workers; agency workers; district nurses etc
- 12. Respect the customer’s wishes and privacy and the need for confidentiality
- 13. To work weekends and Bank Holidays as required
- 14. To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as requested
- All duties and responsibilities must be carried out with due regard to the Break Barriers policies and procedures including standards detailed by the Skills for Care Code of practice.
- Post holders will be accountable for carrying out all duties and responsibilities with due regard to the Break Barriers’ Equal & Diversity Policy.
- Duties which include the processing of any personal data must be undertaken within the Data Protection guidelines & in line with the principle of Break Barriers confidentiality and disclosure policies.
- To ensure service users retain individuality and personal dignity by promoting high standards of care and encouraging independence where appropriate.
- To ensure that different cultural needs are catered for sensitively.
- To respect the confidential nature of the work.
- To provide direct care to service users as circumstances require.
- To contribute to an effective system of communication within the team and to attend team meetings, and case reviews.
- To undertake such duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, as may be determined by the Manager from time to time in consultation with the post holder.
- To ensure that the Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities policies are implemented at all times.
- To attend formal and informal training opportunities to enhance understanding of service users’ needs and abilities.
- Personal care: Assist with personal hygiene, washing assistance with using the toilet, assistance with incontinence inc. pads, commodes and catheter bags
- Support with eating and drinking: Ensuring that clients are encouraged to eat a healthy, balanced diet and the correct quantities, prepared meals look appetising and make sure the way they eat is appropriate for the client
- Assisting with shopping: This is completed on the client’s request and a finance form must be completed with a receipt
- Assist with mobility: Use of a hoist or other aides, or assistance in standing and movement. Dressing or assisting with any physical activity whereby the clients needs support
- Domestic duties: Cleaning, emptying bins, washing where requested
- Record keeping: MAR chart (for medication), log book (recording each visit to communicate to the next carer), care plan updates.

Job Nature
Educational Requirements
- Diploma in Health and Social Care or qualification by experience is desirable but not essential as you will be trained once recruited
